Harris County, Texas, Motor Vehicle Collision Settles for $30,000

On November 25, 2021, a motor vehicle collision occurred in Houston, Harris County, Texas, when the defendant failed to yield the right of way while exiting a private driveway. The Harris County Sheriff's Department responded, determined the defendant caused the crash, and issued a citation. The plaintiff subsequently filed a lawsuit, alleging the defendant's negligence, including failure to yield, excessive speed, and failure to maintain a proper lookout. The plaintiff sought damages for medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, and physical impairment resulting from the accident.

After the defendant failed to respond to the lawsuit, the plaintiff moved for a default judgment. On February 2, 2024, the court found the defendant liable for the collision. Despite the earlier default judgment, the parties reached a settlement agreement on June 20, 2024, resolving all claims for $30,000, an amount less than the original default judgment.
