Harris County Motor Vehicle Negligence Settles for $7,852.88

A minor passenger sustained injuries in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on September 19, 2020, in Harris County, Texas. The plaintiff, acting on behalf of the minor, subsequently filed a lawsuit against the driver, alleging the defendant failed to exercise ordinary care in operating the vehicle, which purportedly caused the accident and the minor's injuries. The plaintiff sought damages for past and future medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, and disfigurement.

Due to a potential conflict of interest between the minor and the adult serving as Next Friend, the court appointed a Guardian Ad Litem for the minor, who adopted the plaintiff's allegations. The parties later reached a settlement agreement.

On December 8, 2022, the court approved the settlement as fair and reasonable, issuing an Agreed Final Judgment. A Minor Settlement Hearing was held on December 14, 2022. The Final Judgment, entered on December 15, 2022, approved a total compromise settlement of $7,852.88. Of this amount, $5,224.71 was allocated for deposit into the Harris County Registry of the Court for the minor's benefit. Remaining funds covered attorney's fees, case expenses, outstanding medical bills, and the Guardian Ad Litem's fee.
