Harris County Minor Injury Auto Accident Settles for $30,000

A minor passenger was injured in an automobile accident on November 3, 2018. The vehicle involved was covered by the defendant's underinsured motorist policy. In May 2019, a petition was filed in Harris County, Texas, seeking court approval for a settlement to address the minor's interests related to these injuries.

The court appointed a guardian ad litem to review the proposed compromise settlement. The guardian ad litem adopted the plaintiff's allegations while denying the defendant's answers and demanding strict proof. During a Minor Settlement Hearing held in July 2019, the County Court at Law Number 1 determined that all claims had been settled and that the proposed $30,000 amount was fair and just to the minor. The court approved the settlement, ordering the funds to be paid into trust with the Harris County Clerk for the minor's benefit. In January 2021, after the minor reached 18 years of age, the court granted an application to withdraw the settlement funds, plus accrued interest, from the registry, concluding the case.
