Harris County Jury Awards $2,413 in Rear-End Collision

An automobile collision occurred on February 13, 2017, in the 19700 block of North Freeway in Harris County, Texas. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant’s vehicle collided with the rear of her car after she had made a lane change due to road debris. On August 2, 2017, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit, claiming the defendant operated his vehicle negligently by failing to maintain a proper lookout, control vehicle speed, and avoid the collision, among other violations.

The plaintiff sought damages for past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and property damage. The defendant denied the allegations, asserting the plaintiff's own negligence caused or contributed to the incident. After several procedural developments, the case proceeded to trial. On August 29, 2022, a jury returned a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, awarding $1,928.10 in general damages.
