A tractor-trailer, operated by a defendant driver in the course of his employment with a defendant trucking company, failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended a vehicle stopped in line for a traffic light. The impact caused a chain reaction, leading the decedent's vehicle to strike the vehicle in front, rotate, collide with another vehicle in an adjacent lane, and overturn. Several minutes later, the decedent's vehicle caught fire.
