Miami Jury Issues $25,000 Verdict in Rear-End Collision

A three-vehicle collision occurred on October 1, 1991, at the intersection of SR 836 and SR 5 in Miami. Traffic had stopped eastbound due to a bridge raising when a third vehicle struck a second vehicle, pushing it into the plaintiff's vehicle. The plaintiff subsequently filed a lawsuit, alleging negligence against the drivers and owners of the other two vehicles involved in the incident.

During the proceedings, both the plaintiff and the defense presented expert testimony from orthopedic surgeons regarding the plaintiff's injuries. The jury ultimately found one defendant, who owned and operated the final vehicle in the chain of collisions, 100% negligent. This defendant was not represented by counsel during the trial. The plaintiff had sought $25,000 in damages, and no post-trial motions were pending at the time.
